Welcome to Balfe’s Bikes where our workshop teams are at the heart of our 12 stores. We can undertake a wide range of servicing tasks including electric bicycles*.
We offer online booking for Servicing (jobs 2 hours and over), Tune-ups (jobs 1 hour or less) we request you call or drop into your nearest Balfe’s store.
Our workshop prices are based on £60/hour and will be completed by our skilled team as quickly as possible to get you back out riding.
We carry a wide range of parts in stock at our stores and central warehouse and we can source specialist items within a week in most cases.
Balfe’s Bikes Workshop Services
Servicing your bike regularly is essential to keep it in the best condition and running smoothly, our servicing prices are based on £60 per hour labour charge but don’t include any parts which will be assessed and quoted when you drop your bike in (please allow 15 minutes time for drop off to run through the work and parts required).
We offer 2 types of Services:
- General service £120 is perfect to keep your bike running smoothly and covers all common mechanical issues including cleaning the drivetrain.
- Full Service £180 takes it to the next level stripping and rebuilding your pride and joy to bring it back to the highest standard possible.
- Electric bike services are £30 extra and include diagnostic checks on the motor and battery as well as software updates.

- Drivetrain removed, degreased & lubricated
- Inspection of frame and fork for damage
- Brakes checked and adjusted
- Gears checked for alignment and wear. Indexing and limit screws adjusted
- Hubs checked for wear and adjusted if necessary
- Bottom bracket checked for wear, adjusted if necessary
- Wheels checked and trued
- Headset checked for wear. adjusted if necessary
- Wheels checked and trued
- Headset checked for wear, adjusted if necessary
- Cockpit adjusted for alignment and torque checked
- Saddle and seatpost adjusted for alignment and torque checked
- Any additional bolts tightened as necessary
- Includes fitting any replacement parts approved by the customer. Parts not included
Full Service £180
- Complete strip down and rebuild
- Drivetrain degreased and lubricated
- Motor and battery diagnostics and software updates
- Inspection of frame and fork for damage
- Brakes checked and adjusted. (Hydraulic brakes bled if necessary)
- Gears checked for alignment and wear. Indexing and limit screws adjusted
- Hubs opened, regreased and adjusted
- Bottom bracket checked for wear, frames faces reamed if necessary
- Wheels checked, spoke tensions balanced and trued
- Headset taken apart and inspected for wear, and replacement quoted if necessary
- Cockpit adjusted for alignment and torque checked
- Saddle and seatpost adjusted for alignment and torque checked
- Any additional bolts tightened as necessary
- Includes fitting any replacement parts approved by the customer. Parts not included
Electric Bike General Service £150

Tune-Ups
If your bike has a few niggles but doesn’t need any parts replaced from wear and tear, then a Tune-Up might be the best option. Tune-ups are booked by contacting your nearest Balfe’s store or just dropping in.

- Inspection of brake pads for wear (rim or disc)
- Inspection of rims or discs for wear
- Adjustment of brakes to ensure safe operation and correct alignment
Tune-Up
£60
- Full safety check
- Inspection & adjustment of brakes, gears, frame, fork, handlebar & headset
- Tyres checked for damage and inflated to the correct pressure
- All bolts checked and tightened
- Chain lubricated
Punctures
Punctures catch us all out from time to time, we’ll aim to get you back out on the road as quickly as we can. The labour costs below do not include parts, typically you’ll need a new inner tube but if your tyre or rim tape is damaged or faulty we’ll recommend replacing it to ensure you have the best chance to avoid unnecessary future punctures.
- Front or Rear Standard Inner tube installation £12 – remove your old inner tube, check tyre and rim tape.
- Rear Wheel hub gear/Brompton Inner tube installation £20 – Includes resetting your gears upon refitting the rear wheel.
- Rear Wheel Chain Case Innertube installation £30 – Includes removing and installing the chain case, and retuning the hub gear.
- Tubeless Setup – £30 per wheel. More and more of our customers are moving to tubeless setups with sealant on their bikes to reduce the risk of punctures. Please drop by your local store to see if this would be applicable to your bike and discuss the parts required to install a tubeless setup.

What electric bikes do you service?
We are certified to sell and service Brompton, Specialized (Brose), Yamaha, Fazua, Bosch and Shimano-equipped e-bikes. We can perform diagnostic & firmware updates and carry out professional e-bike servicing and repair. To ensure we only carry out work to the highest possible standard we do not service aftermarket motor kits, modified e-bikes or e-bike motors from brands we do not stock ourselves. We are proud to be a certified Shimano Service Centre.
