S-Works Recon

Catering for recent road converts through to sultans of dirt speed, the new S-Works Recon delivers on the gravel and XC front. They used more than 100,000-foot scans from their Retul fit data to recognise that both a standard and a wide carbon base plate would best serve the spectrum of human foot shapes. I-Beam adds stiffness and strength and eliminates the need for additional bracing. The result is an intentional fit, that’s stiff, comfortable, and tunable—to put the power down.

Inside and out, Body Geometry technology is baked into the S-Works Recon. Using nearly two decades of development and validated data, to ensure there are no pain points, only performance, where your body meets the bike. Through the creation of the Varus Wedge, Longitudinal Arch, and Metatarsal Button, your feet stay in their most optimal position when pedalling—as well as in line with your knee and hips offering comfort and performance.

  • High-density pontoons and new shims allow riders to tune their pedal interface for maximum efficiency and a road-like pedal platform
  • Features Body Geometry technology by way of the Varus Wedge, a Longitudinal Arch, and a Metatarsal Button
  • An asymmetrical heel counter supports the medial side while removing material from the lateral side, allowing for a lower collar.
  • Using an Internal I-Beam adds stiffness and strength—eliminating the need for additional bracing and allowing the shoe to stay extremely lightweight
  • Zoned reinforcement across the quarter and forefoot maximises support while the updated BOA® routing improves lockdown—eliminating the need for a toe strap

Recon Adv

The brief from Specialized for their Recon Adv shoe was simple, make it look good, feel good and ride good. They wanted style and substance. They ticked the box for looks and not only is the Adv great for all-day gravel riding, but the Stride Toe-Flex Technology makes it excellent for walking in too.

  • Stride Toe-Flex Technology allows greater toe flex for steep inclines and improved walkability
  • Laser perforated upper features microfiber backing for better moisture management and supple feeling
  • Ride or hike in confidence with a TPU mudguard that offers protection from stone strikes
  • Pontoons create a stable pedal platform as well as aid walking feel
  • Greater SlipNot rubber tread coverage on the sole that’s optimised for gravel traction
  • The feature proved Body Geometry Technology like the Varus Wedge to maintain efficient and comfortable hip, knee, and foot alignment while riding
