The Tarmac SL9 was probably the most hotly anticipated bike release of 2026. With rumours flying around left, right and centre, everyone wanted to know the juicy details. S-Works Tarmac SL9 launched back in June, but we’re delighted to share that the full Specialized Tarmac SL9 lineup is now complete.

What’s the Difference Between Tarmac SL9 and SL8?
Tarmac SL9 draws directly from the learnings of SL8 and Specialized’s decades of aerodynamics research. So while on first glance you may think SL9 doesn’t look too dissimilar to its predecessor, every part of Tarmac SL9 has been refined and re-sculpted to make this their fastest race bike yet.
Speed Sniffer
Specialized Tarmac SL9’s headtube is now 4mm narrower, which delivers a 10% reduction in frontal area and reduces drag even further. Making the head tube narrower meant the Specialized team had to get creative for cable routing. Their Offset Steerer design means both brake cables can be routed along the same side, making the changes to the new Speed Sniffer possible.
Win Fin
Real-world race data shows that many riders in race breakaways will ride with one bottle instead of two, due to the close proximity of team cars and the ability to grab fresh bottles if needed. This changes the airflow around the seat tube and rear triangle considerably compared to a traditional two-bottle setup. Bearing this in mind, Specialized completely re-engineered the rear end of Tarmac. The result of this redevelopment is the Win Fin, tuned to take riders to the top of the podium, saving 0.5 watts.
Dropped Downtube
On Tarmac SL9, the gap between the fork, head tube, front tyre and leading edge of the downtube has been reduced to allow airflow to move more naturally through. Making this gap smaller reduces drag and improves the efficiency of the entire front-end by helping prevent disturbed air from spilling into the frame.
Flow Fork
Specialized haven’t just deepened the fork blades, they’ve also twisted them inwards on SL9 which guides airflow more efficiently along the frame. Paired with the fork crown now sitting cleanly in the head tube and down tube transition, the Flow Fork keeps airflow attached for longer and reduces drag.
S-Works Rapide Post (S-Works Only)
During testing using their Moving Leg Mannequin, Specialized uncovered something that traditional testing never flagged. As a rider pedals, their legs cause airflow to accelerate into the channel between their thighs and the frame. This high speed stream of air hits the seatpost directly, meaning this area is far more sensitive to aero than previously realised.
The S-Works Rapide Post offers a deeper profile and reduced frontal area, which provides a cleaner airflow. This is the thinnest seatpost that Specialized have ever made, and enhances the aero performance of the entire frame (without any negative effect on compliance).

Specialized S-Works Tarmac SL9
The S-Works SL9 is Specialized’s fastest road race bike yet. In fact, their research shows that this bike is the fastest race bike ever built, delivering the lowest real-world “Time to Finish” of any road bike.
Comprehensive road race simulations revealed that Demi Vollering would have been 14 seconds faster in the last stage of the 2024 Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift. Meaning she would have taken the win!
