The Fox 36 has led the single crown fork market since 2005 with best-in-class performance and an unrivaled stiffness-to-weight ratio. The latest evolution brings big fork energy to all-mountain riding. An updated chassis and a significant increase in bushing overlap add 20% torsional stiffness over the previous 36, approaching the steering responsiveness of the 38.
Arch to Rival
Generatively designed and optimised by Fox engineers, the new 36 arch wraps around the lowers to increase torsional stiffness of the fork by a full 20%. This gives the 36 87% of the torsional stiffness found on the 38, while remaining 275g lighter.
Compliant Air Spring
A large bending force—such as hitting a large rock or root at high speed—can cause the air spring to bind to the inside of the stanchion. The redesigned and compliant FLOAT air spring decouples the stanchion from the air shaft, allowing the piston to move with the fork while under these bending loads. This results in smoother suspension action, especially when the fork is experiencing high loads from speed or rider weight.
Bushing Overlap
Bushing overlap refers to the distance between upper and lower bushings in each leg. By adding an additional 30mm of bushing overlap over the previous 36 chassis, friction is reduced significantly for a smoother-feeling fork, while adding fore-aft stiffness for more stability at higher speeds.
GRIP X2 Damper
The GRIP X2 damper features a 24mm base diameter with 23 valves, increasing the 4-way tuning range of high/low-speed rebound and high/low-speed compression. Riders benefit from sitting higher in the travel while tyres stay glued to the ground, increasing traction and confidence during downhill and enduro racing.
Inboard Bypass Channels
Bypass channels help curb pressure ramping for increased small bump sensitivity and recirculate oil to lubricate bushings and seals. Relocating these channels to the inboard side removes them from the fore-aft load path, further reducing friction and wear.
Added Utility
- Low profile bleeders: Grooved design allows pressure to escape around your finger as you press the bleeder.
- Air spring top cap: Now uses the common Shimano cassette tool for easy volume adjustments.
- Mudguard: Mounts to seal flanges and arch instead of bleeder ports for refined aesthetics and seal protection.
Key Features & Benefits:
- Increased Stiffness: The updated chassis and 30mm of additional bushing overlap provide a 20% increase in torsional stiffness, offering steering responsiveness comparable to the 38.
- GRIP X2 Damper: A descent-focused damper with a 24mm base diameter and 23 valves, providing extensive 4-way tuning for high/low-speed rebound and compression to enhance traction and control.
- Compliant FLOAT Air Spring: Redesigned to decouple the stanchion from the air shaft, ensuring smoother suspension action and reduced binding under high-load conditions like high-speed impacts.
