The Hope Tech 4 V4 brake offers a 30% pressure increase compared to the Tech 3 model. The lever shape has been updated to provide an ergonomic design, oriented to deliver the best mechanical advantage during braking. A hinged clamp design reduces weight and improves ergonomics, while the reservoir area has been increased to lower the overall stack height.
The hydraulic ratio is improved by using a small diameter master cylinder bore. The mechanical ratio has been fine-tuned using real riding data to provide the best balance of increased power and modulation, resulting in a usable lever feel throughout the full range of reach and bite point adjustment. This creates a linear relationship between brake pressure and lever force, making it easy and intuitive to control braking power.
Design and Performance
The brake features a rigid CNC'd one-piece caliper and hybrid style pistons. These pistons consist of a stainless-steel shell, which allows for smoother movement and requires less maintenance, and a phenolic insert to manage heat transfer during extreme use. The Tech 4 retains the tool-free bite point and reach adjustments from the Tech 3.
Compatibility and Setup
Shifter integration has been improved, offering 30° of angle adjustment, neater packaging, and compatibility with a wider range of current shifter options. Lateral adjustment on both sides of the master cylinder is also possible to provide a wide range of lever position options. The brake uses a post mount 9.74 caliper with adapters to suit all mount options and is compatible with 160, 180, 183, 200, 203, and 220mm front and rear rotors. All brakes are supplied with new racing compound pads, designed to offer impressive performance with little bedding in required and increased resistance to fade.
