Helmet Care:Helmets are pieces of personal protective equipment: while POC strive to make them with as small an impact on the environment as possible, POC always develop them with the view that your safety comes first.
Replace your helmet after any impact, even if there is no visible damage. The helmet’s impact absorption properties can be affected after impacts even where there is no visible exterior damage.
All cycle helmets should be replaced after 3–5 years of normal use.
To best care for your helmet, follow these steps:
StorageStore your helmet in a dry place, away from sources of heat, e.g. a radiator or in a hot car. Keep it protected in the helmet bag provided at purchase.
TransportDo not expose your helmet to impacts or external pressure during transport.
CleaningClean the helmet with a damp cloth. A small amount of mild liquid soap may also be used. Avoid strong detergents or solvents.
The helmet’s internal padding can be removed and hand-washed in cool water with mild soap. Pads should be air dried. Do not dry in a tumble dryer or drying cabinet.
Helmet straps cannot be removed from the helmet but can be cleaned with water and mild soap and air dried.
Certain parts of a helmet, including pads, peaks and screws, can be replaced if needed.
PersonalisationPOC do not recommend that you add stickers, decals or glue to your helmet, or personalise your helmet in any other way. This may reduce durability and affect your protection.
ReplacementNo helmet is designed to last forever. The helmet should be viewed as a perishable item and replaced after 3–5 years or normal use or immediately after an impact.
If you know or suspect that your helmet has been damaged or exposed to any abnormal force it should be checked by an authorised POC dealer. Damage that may reduce your helmet’s level of protection can be difficult to detect. Replace your helmet if there is any sign or suspicion of damage.
